Japan is Vietnam’s leading important partner, says PM

VOV.VN - Japan is Vietnam’s leading important partner, affirmed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during his meeting with Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Ken Saito at a meeting in Tokyo on December 16.

Chinh said Vietnam highly appreciates the support of the Japanese Government, businesses and people in its socio-economic development.

He expressed hope that the two countries would continue to strengthen cooperation, concretize and promote the comprehensive strategic partnership established during the recent visit to Japan by President Vo Van Thuong.

The Prime Minister requested that the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the minister personally continue to support Vietnam in the process of national industrialization and modernization, science and technology development, green transformation, and digital transformation.

Minister Ken Saito for his part expressed Japan’s desire to promote economic, trade and industrial cooperation with Vietnam, especially in areas where Japan has strengths such as clean energy, digital economy, semiconductor industry, new generation cars, and high-tech medicine.

Japan commits to accompanying Vietnam in energy conversion and carbon emissions reduction, he assured the Vietnamese leader.

Chinh welcomed Japan’s goodwill and expected that by working closely together the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan would reap greater success in the coming half a century.

Meeting with Norihiko Ishiguro, chairman of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the same day, the PM spoke highly of JETRO’s practical and effective contributions to boosting investment and trade cooperation between the two countries.

He proposed that JETRO continue to coordinate with Vietnamese agencies to promote the image, investment environment, potential, and investment cooperation opportunities of Vietnam to large Japanese businesses. He asked JETRO to encourage and support Japanese businesses to increase investment in Vietnam, along with developing supporting industries and innovation associated with technology transfer, especially high, green and clean technology.

He expected that JETRO would continue to give advice to help Vietnam develop investment attraction policies, focusing on emerging industries, green transformation, digital transformation, circular economy, knowledge economy, and sharing economy.
