Vietnam and China vow to boost strategic, comprehensive, and substantive cooperation

VOV.VN - Vietnam and China reaffirmed their commitment to promoting their strategic, comprehensive, and substantive cooperation, focusing on priority areas, during a meeting in Nanning, China, on September 16.

The meeting was held between Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh and Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on the sidelines of the 22nd China–ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the 22nd China–ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) in Nanning.

VP Han welcomed the active participation of the Vietnamese delegation, contributing to the success of CAEXPO and CABIS this year, while congratulating Vietnam on the successful celebration of the recent 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2). He also conveyed greetings from Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping to the leaders of the Communist Party and State of Vietnam.

Deputy PM Chinh extended greetings from senior Vietnamese leaders to Xi Jinping and other top Chinese leaders, and expressed confidence that CAEXPO 2025 and CABIS 2025 would be a great success, further strengthening ASEAN–China cooperation.

Both sides highlighted the positive developments in bilateral relations, especially regular high-level exchanges, strategic economic cooperation, locality-to-locality cooperation, and vibrant people-to-people interactions. They also discussed measures to further foster bilateral relations and agreed to instruct ministries and local authorities to implement shared understandings effectively.

Affirming the consistent policy of the Party, State, and Government of Vietnam to further develop relations with China, Deputy PM Chinh proposed strengthening political relations and maintaining flexible high-level exchanges across Party, Government, National Assembly, and Fatherland Front channels.

He emphasised the promotion of railway cooperation, giving priority to the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong line and making full use of the joint committee mechanism. He also encouraged healthy and sustainable bilateral trade, with China opening its markets to Vietnamese agricultural and aquatic products and facilitating the operations of Vietnam’s trade promotion offices.

In addition, the Deputy PM highlighted the need to expand cooperation in the digital economy, green economy, circular economy, and energy transition, while encouraging large-scale, high-quality, and technologically advanced Chinese investment in Vietnam. He called for enhanced people-to-people exchanges, including cultural, educational, tourism, and sports activities, as well as the sharing of experience on ethnic and religious affairs, particularly within the framework of the Year of Vietnam–China Humanistic Exchange 2025, commemorating 75 years of diplomatic relations.

Appreciating Deputy PM Chinh’s views, VP Han affirmed that China attaches the highest importance to developing relations with Vietnam, based on strategic priorities and a long-term vision. He agreed that both sides should promote high-level and multi-level exchanges, deepen the sharing of experience in Party building and state governance, and enhance cooperation in defence and security, thereby strengthening mutual understanding and consolidating political trust between the two countries.

The VP encouraged potential Chinese localities, including Guangxi, to enhance friendly exchanges and practical cooperation with Vietnamese localities, especially border provinces, and to improve cooperation in tourism, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, thereby consolidating a strong public foundation for bilateral relations.

He also stated that China is ready to strengthen transport infrastructure connectivity, expand imports of Vietnamese goods, and encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in Vietnam.

Both sides also agreed to coordinate closely at international and regional forums, contributing actively to global peace, cooperation, and development.
