Vietnam and Cambodia promote transport connectivity
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Cambodia will enhance economic connectivity, especially transport connectivity, between the two countries, creating the prerequisite to increase bilateral cooperation in other fields.
The agreement was reached during a meeting in Melbourne, Australia, on March 6, between Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Cambodian counterpart Hun Manet on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to mark 50 years of their partnership.
Chinh congratulated Cambodia on successfully organizing the recent Senate election, saying the results of the election further affirmed the leadership role of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) in Cambodia.
He sent his warmest congratulations to Samdech Trecho, Hun Sen and other senior leaders of the CPP, and respectfully conveyed the greetings of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other senior leaders of Vietnam to King Norodom Sihamoni and Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister also congratulated Cambodian on sound economic development achievements recorded by Cambodian people in recent times.
The two PMs expressed their joy at the recent positive and stable development of Vietnam – Cambodia relations, noting that leaders of the two countries maintain regular visits and high-level contacts, while bilateral cooperation mechanisms prove to be effective.
They agreed to further improve the effectiveness of economic - trade - investment cooperation, and at the same time to promote connection between the two economies, especially transport connectivity, in order to further strengthen cooperation in other fields.
The two sides agreed to effectively coordinate and deploy existing agreements and mechanisms on national defense and security, and make further efforts to complete the 16% remaining workload of border demarcation in order to build a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development between the two countries.
Hun Manet for his part vowed to create conditions for people of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia to stabilize their lives, integrate into their host country, and act as a bridge of friendship between the two countries.
He also said Cambodia will continue to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to invest and do business successfully in Cambodia.
He suggested increasing the frequency of flights between the two countries to increase tourism and trade connections.
The two PMs agreed to continue close cooperation between the two countries as well as with Laos and Thailand to connect traffic, and exploit the tourism potential of the countries.
