PM arrives in Melbourne for ASEAN - Australia Summit and official visit to Australia

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his spouse and the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived at Melbourne airport at 9:20 pm (local time) on March 4, starting their attendance at the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia dialogue relations, and official visits to Australia from March 5 –9 at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

The Special Summit running the theme of “A Partnership for the Future” is an opportunity for the two sides to review the past 50 years of relations and discuss a score of measures to promote substantive and effective development of relations in accordance with the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership established back in 2021.

PM Chinh and leaders will discuss measures aimed at stepping up ASEAN-Australia cooperation, the vision of both sides regarding the regional future, and how they can collaborate to address common challenges.

In particular, it is expected that the Australian side will discuss and propose fresh co-operation initiatives. If the two sides agree, there will be breakthroughs made in bilateral ties, thereby contributing to creating more resources and foundations for ASEAN-Australia relations to develop stronger moving forward.

​During his official visit to Australia, the Vietnamese cabinet leader is scheduled to hold talks and meetings with highest-ranking Australian leaders. He will also attend the Vietnam - Australia Business Forum; visit exhibitions on investment projects in the nation; work with a number of business associations and major Australian groups as well as paying a visit to a number of economic, social, and scientific research establishments in Australia.

The PM will spend time meeting with Embassy officials and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Australia, representatives of the Intellectual Association and experts from both sides.

Along with evaluating developments in bilateral relations in recent times, especially in terms of implementing the strategic partnership between the two nations, both sides will focus their co-operation on bringing bilateral relationship to new heights towards the goals of stronger trade and investment collaboration, especially expanding ties in education - training, science - technology, innovation, the digital economy, and the green economy.

As part of this occasion, the two sides will sign and exchange many co-operation documents in the fields of education, energy, minerals, agriculture - forestry - fishery, science - technology, innovation, justice, finance, trade, and investment.
