PM attends welcome ceremony for delegation heads at ASEAN-Australia Special Summit

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife attended an official welcome ceremony for the delegation heads attending the Special Summit commemorating 50 years of ASEAN-Australia dialogue relations chaired by the Australian Prime Minister and his fiancée on March 5 in Melbourne.

As scheduled, PMh Chinh will attend the plenary session of the summit and retreat meetings on March 6.

The Special Summit taking place from March 4 to March 6 is viewed as an important milestone in Australia's shared history with the region.

The milestone demonstrates Australian commitment to strengthening ties with Southeast Asia.

The focus of this special summit is to celebrate 50 years of the Australia-ASEAN dialogue partnership and will concentrate on four key areas, including business, emerging leaders, climate and clean energy, and maritime co-operation.

Specific activities include the Business CEO Forum which will bring together Australian and Southeast Asian business leaders, industry stakeholders, and government agencies to discuss ways to enhance two-way trade and investment; Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Conference; Climate and Clean Energy Forum, and Maritime Cooperation Conference.

Australia became the first country to establish a dialogue partnership with ASEAN and four years ago and has become the bloc’s first comprehensive strategic partner, whilst it is also their second most important trading partner.

Alongside this, the next generation of Australian and ASEAN leaders will participate in the Emerging Leaders Dialogue which seeks to promote shared understanding of the important long-term challenges that both sides face together, while simultaneously identifying areas where the two sides can co-operate further.
