UN pledges continued support for Vietnam’s sustainable development goals

VOV.VN - The United Nations will provide continued support to help Vietnam realize the sustainable development goals, said UN Resident Coordinator Pauline Tamesis.

Meeting with Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the UN on November 16, Tamesis said many countries consider Vietnam an exemplary role model in implementing the sustainable development goals and promoting the reform of the United Nations development system.

She recalled UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres’ recent statement that Vietnam is one of the emerging economies with capacity and resources, affirming the UN needs to deploy more measures to support Vietnam more effectively in implementing socio-economic development strategies.

Tamesis pledged to pool resources to support Vietnam in enhancing the development of education and training, while expanding cooperation into new fields such as big data, and strategic forecasting, to help Vietnam achieve additional gains in sustainable development.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang for his part highly appreciated the efforts of the Resident Coordinator and United Nations agencies in Vietnam in supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

He affirmed that Vietnam would continue to support the reform of the United Nations development system, including ensuring sustainable finances and effective operations for the Resident Coordinator system.

The ambassador expected that the United Nations would continue to provide resources, share knowledge and experience and accompany Vietnam in its effort to implement the Sustainable Development Goals and international commitments on climate action, digital transformation and energy transition.

Earlier, during a dialogue between countries with United Nations Resident Coordinators globally on November 15, Tamesis gave a presentation on Vietnam’s efforts in implementing sustainable development goals, as well as UN support for the country’s human resource development, social security, and post-pandemic recovery.
