Denmark pledges support to realise Vietnam’s green transition goal

VOV.VN - Denmark will assist Vietnam to meet its green transition ambition through the recent establishment of a green strategic partnership between the two countries, affirmed Danish Ambassador to Vietnam Nicolai Prytz.

The establishment of the Green Strategic Partnership clearly demonstrates Denmark’s prioritised commitment to supporting the country in its green transition process, said Ambassador Prytz in an interview recently granted to VOV.

According to the Ambassador, Denmark is currently one of the leading countries in terms of the green transition process, and Vietnam is the fifth country globally that Denmark has established a Green Strategic Partnership with.

The establishment of the Green Strategic Partnership will serve to create conditions for the transition process to take place synchronously at all levels, from the Government to ministries and agencies, as well as among businesses in Vietnam, he said.

The diplomat expressed great appreciation for Vietnam embarking on the green growth model, as evidenced in the country’s net zero emissions commitments set out at the 26th UN Conference in Climate Change (COP 26) in 2022, its active engagement in the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), and the recent adoption of the national power development plan VIII.

Denmark supports these strong and ambitious commitments, and it is willing to support the Vietnamese side in meeting these commitments, stressed Ambassador Prytz.

To realise the recently developed Green Strategic Partnership, he outlined that the two sides will increase dialogues and visit exchanges to work on programmes related to climate change response and green growth.

The two sides will try to find common views and commitments to be delivered at the upcoming COP28 which will take place in the United Arab Emirates from November 30 to December 12. In addition, the two countries will continue to closely cooperate within the JETP as they are both members of this partnership.

They will also work together in introducing appropriate policies and legal frameworks to encourage green investment from the private sector. They will boost linkages in the areas in which Denmark has a lot of experience and Vietnam also needs to develop.

The Scandinavian country, which has acquired experience in green transition for almost three decades, is willing to share its viable solutions as well as lessons learnt with Vietnam, said the Ambassador.

Furthermore, he expects the Green Strategic Partnership will help the Vietnamese side to attract greater Danish invest, thereby contributing to sustainable development and bringing real value to the country.
