VOV.VN - A high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam led by Vuong DInh Hue, chairman of the legislature arrived in Beijing on April 7 afternoon, beginning a six-day official visit to China at the invitation of Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China.
Hue was welcomed at Beijing Capital International Airport by Wang Dongming, vice chairman of the the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, along with other senior officials of the Chinese legislature.
This is the first visit to China by Hue in his capacity as Chairman of the National Assembly, and also the first visit to China by a Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam in five years.
This is also the first direct meeting between the heads of the two countries' legislatures after the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the 20th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party.
The visit takes place after both Vietnam and China issued a joint statement on continuing to deepen and elevate the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to build a Vietnam-China community with a shared future.
The visit is of great significance in maintaining high-level contacts, implementing, and concretising the common understanding between the top leaders of the two Parties and states. It not only contributes to strengthening cooperation between the two legislative bodies but also represents high-level strategic exchanges between the two Parties and states of Vietnam and China.
Upon arriving in Beijing, Hue met with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Beijing.
During his stay, the Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman will have meetings, talks, and contacts with key leaders of the Chinese Party and State, and leaders of some Chinese localities. This is an important opportunity for the two sides to discuss issues at a strategic level in bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of mutual concern.
