Top Vietnamese leader concludes China visit, reinforcing strategic partnership

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse left Nanning city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on April 17, concluding a successful state visit to China from April 14–17 at the invitation of Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and his spouse.

During the visit, the top Vietnamese leaders held talks with the top Chinese leader, and met with other senior Chinese leaders, including Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress; Wang Huning, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and Premier Li Qiang. He also attended the signing ceremony of several key cooperation documents between the two countries.

The Vietnamese leader delivered a policy speech at Tsinghua University, visited the Xiong'an New Area, and toured the China–ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Application Cooperation Centre, reflecting a focus on innovation-driven cooperation.

He also engaged with Vietnamese officials and the overseas Vietnamese community in China, met relatives of former Chinese experts who had supported Vietnam, and attended the launch of the Vietnam–China Border People Exchange Festival 2026, among other activities.

In a candid and friendly atmosphere, leaders of both countries held in-depth discussions on bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of shared concern.

They expressed satisfaction with the positive development of Vietnam–China relations, highlighting frequent high-level exchanges, increasingly comprehensive cooperation mechanisms, and growing mutual trust. Cooperation in defence and security has become more substantive, while economic, trade and investment ties, along with infrastructure connectivity, have seen new breakthroughs.

Local cooperation and people-to-people exchanges have remained vibrant, and coordination at multilateral forums has been further strengthened.

Against the backdrop of a complex global landscape, the leaders reaffirmed the importance of maintaining close coordination, enhancing strategic trust and strengthening connectivity in policies, trade, infrastructure and energy. They agreed to further deepen and elevate bilateral ties in the new stage, contributing to peace, cooperation and development in the region and beyond.

Both sides agreed to continue guiding ministries, sectors and localities to effectively implement the overall direction of “six major orientations”, maintain regular high-level exchanges and promote the guiding role of Party-to-Party channels.

They also pledged to enhance substantive cooperation across sectors, strengthen the social foundation of bilateral ties, improve coordination in multilateral mechanisms, and better manage and address differences.

The two top leaders announced the launch of the Vietnam–China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026–2027, aiming to boost tourism promotion, upgrade infrastructure and services, and maintain the position of each country as a leading source of tourists for the other.

As part of the visit, the two sides signed a wide range of cooperation documents covering Party channels, public security, justice, economic cooperation, supply chains, customs, science and technology, social affairs, human resource development, media and local cooperation.

At the conclusion of the visit, both sides issued a Joint Statement on deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and advancing the building of a Vietnam–China community with a shared future of strategic significance at a higher level in the new era.
