Top legislator to attend Francophone forum on sustainable agriculture

VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man will attend a meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of Francophone (APF) Executive Committee and a Francophone parliamentary forum on sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate change adaptation.

Man, alongside the APF President and Francophone Director General, will participate in and deliver speeches at the two events, to be held in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho from January 21 to 24.

Hosting the APF Executive Committee Meeting and the Francophone parliamentary forum reaffirms Vietnam’s active engagement in multilateral parliamentary diplomacy, that showcases its commitment to international cooperation and its pivotal role in regional and global parliamentary mechanisms.

The Francophone parliamentary forum will center on exchanging experiences and highlighting the role of Francophone parliamentarians in addressing global challenges and key issues of interest within the Francophone community. It also serves as a platform to promote Vietnam’s achievements in sustainable development.

The forum will feature three discussion sessions, focusing on cooperation among Francophone member states in sustainable agriculture, food security within the Francophone community, and experience sharing in the context of climate change impact.

The forum is anticipated to adopt the Can Tho Declaration, which will summarize the perspectives and recommendations of participants regarding the Francophone community’s role in promoting sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate change adaptation.

The Parliamentary Assembly of Francophone (APF) is an inter-parliamentary organization comprising 91 parliaments from French-speaking countries and territories. Established in May 1967, it serves as the parliamentary consultative body for the Francophone community, while advocating for democracy, human rights, and sustainable development.

As a key Francophone member in the Asia-Pacific region, Vietnam plays an active role in APF activities, through hosting committee meetings. This reflects the country’s dedication to strengthening Francophone cooperation and promoting cultural, educational, and sustainable development initiatives within the global Francophone community.
