Top legislator receives outgoing Cuban Ambassador
VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man received outgoing Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen at the National Assembly building in Hanoi on November 13.
Man congratulated Guillen on successfully completing his working term in Vietnam, saying the diplomat has played a crucial role in enhancing the political, diplomatic, and socio-economic ties between the two countries.
He emphasized that Vietnam always remembers the solidarity and wholehearted support that the Cuban Party and state provided during its struggle for national liberation and unification in the past, as well as during its current phase of national construction and defense. He again described the Vietnam – Cuba relationship as a special friendship marked by high political trust, serving as an exemplary role model in international relations.
Through the ambassador, he conveyed his condolences and sympathy to the leaders of the Cuban Party, State, National Assembly, and people, over the consequences recently caused by hurricanes Oscar and Rafael, as well as the earthquake in eastern Cuba.
Man noted that both Vietnam and Cuba faced severe natural disasters and global challenges in 2024, yet their relationship continued to strengthen through high-level exchanges across Party, state, and National Assembly channels. He highlighted the deepening of political trust and the furthering of socio-economic and cultural ties through the state visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to Cuba in September 2024, marked by the signing of numerous cooperation agreements that requires effective implementation in the future.
He told his guest that Vietnam is currently encouraging relevant ministries and sectors to support Cuba in rice production, as and assist the Caribbean state in solar power generation.
He emphasized the positive relationship between the two National Assemblies, noting the Ambassador’s contributions to fostering friendship and cooperation. He expressed confidence that, regardless of his future role, the Ambassador would continue to contribute to the exemplary and enduring friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba.
On this occasion, Man conveyed his best wishes to First Secretary and President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, General Raul Castro, and National Assembly President Esteban Lazo.
Ambassador Guillen agreed with his host that the relationship between the two Parties and states of Vietnam and Cuba has continually strengthened over the past years. He highlighted that cooperation between the two National Assemblies has been actively promoted, as evidenced by the three official visits to Vietnam by the Cuban National Assembly President, the establishment of the first session of the Vietnam-Cuba Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee, and experience exchanges between the two countries’ parliamentary committees.
He particularly acknowledged Man’s significant contributions to fostering the Vietnam-Cuba parliamentary cooperation.
The Cuban Ambassador stated that as the parliaments of the two countries play an important role in promoting bilateral cooperation, especially in economics and trade as well as local cooperation, they need to establish a legal framework to practically and effectively support such cooperation in the future.
