Thailand ceremony celebrates 80 years of Vietnam People’s Army
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand and the Vietnamese Defense Attaché Office held a ceremony in Bangkok on December 18 evening, celebrating 80 years of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and 35 years of the All-People Defense Day.
In his opening speech, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung highlighted the historical significance of the establishment of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22, 1944-2024) and the All-People Defense Day (December 22, 1989 – 2024), recalling the glorious achievements of the VPA in the struggle for national liberation, as well as in national construction and defense.
Over the past eight decades, he said, the Vietnam People’s Army has continuously developed, showing the strength of a revolutionary army that was born from the people and fights for the people, and deserving to be the special political force, the absolutely loyal and reliable fighting force of the Party, State, and People of Vietnam.
He further affirmed that in whatever circumstances, Vietnam’s defense nature is based on a people-centered national defense, characterized by peace, self-defense, proactivity, determination, and persistence in preventing and repelling the risks of war.
Vietnam adheres to its “Four No’s” defense policy while also intensifying international integration and defense diplomacy, both bilaterally and multilaterally, contributing to building an environment of peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the rest of the world, the diplomat affirmed.
Colonel Pho Trieu Cuong, Vietnamese Defense Attaché to Thailand, emphasized that defense diplomacy has become one of the pillars of the Party and State’s diplomacy, and an important channel for building strategic trust, developing friendly relations between Vietnam and other countries and international organizations, thereby enhancing the prestige and position of the country, its people and the VPA.
The Colonel also highlighted Vietnam-Thailand defense cooperation, which he said has been maintained and developed, expanding into many areas and gradually going deeper, achieving practical results for the benefit of both countries.
At the ceremony, delegates viewed historical documentary footage about Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation and reunification, enjoyed traditional Vietnamese dishes, and reminisced about the 80-year long history of the Vietnam People’s Army.
