President urges Vietnam-Cambodia border demarcation, marker planting completion
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Cambodia should make a greater effort to soon complete land border demarcation and border marker planting in order to build a common border of peace, stability, cooperation and development, Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong told visiting Cambodia National Assembly Chairwoman Khuon Sudary.
Vietnam and Cambodia began border demarcation and border marker planting in 1999, and they have so far completed 84% of the workload along the shared 1,258km long border.
Receiving the top Cambodian legislator in Hanoi on December 1, Thuong highly appreciated the results of high-level talks between the two countries’ legislative bodies on the same day, stressing that both Vietnam and Cambodia have many things in common in the development process, and the development of one country is a great source of encouragement for the other.
He suggested that the two countries increase visit exchanges, promote security-defense as an important pillar in bilateral relations, and fully tap their trade cooperation to facilitate market access for their farm products.
He also suggested that the two countries continue to support each other on international and regional issues meeting the interests of each side.
Sudary for her part said she hopes Vietnam will share its development experiences with Cambodia to realise national development goals. According to the legislator, there are currently many Cambodian students studying in Vietnam who serve as a bridge to contribute to promoting relations between the two countries.
Receiving the Cambodian guest on the same day, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that Vietnam always supports Cambodia’s national construction and development, and believes under the reign of King Norodom Sihamoni and the leadership of the Government led by the Cambodian People’s Party, the Cambodian people will continue to reap new and greater achievements.
The historical tradition of solidarity, close bond and mutual assistance between the two Parties, two States and two peoples is a valuable asset and a great source of strength for the cause of national liberation in the past, as well as for the cause of national construction and defense at present, Trong told his guest.
The Party General Secretary proposed that the two sides effectively implement the reached agreements and that the two legislative bodies increase visit exchanges to share information and experiences in legislation and implementation of signed documents, while supporting each other at multilateral, international inter-parliamentary forums.
