Vietnam and Cambodia vow to foster all-round cooperation

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Cambodia will continue to promote all-round cooperation, including parliamentary cooperation, to further strengthen bilateral relations, agreed National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and his Cambodian counterpart Samdech Khuon Sudary during their talks in Hanoi on December 1.

The two leaders were of the view that relations between the two Parties and two States of Vietnam and Cambodia have developed positively, recording many important achievements. Political trust has been strengthened, while defense and security cooperation has been promoted, serving as an important pillar in bilateral relations.

Economic, cultural, social and scientific and technical cooperation has been enhanced, with two-way trade turnover last year hitting a record high of US$10 billion.

Vietnam always considers the achievements of the Cambodia People’s Party, State and people of Cambodia as a great source of encouragement for Vietnam and also as achievements of Vietnam itself, said Hue.

He expressed his belief that Cambodia would successfully realise its Pentagonal Strategy – Phase I to turn it into an upper middle-income economy by 2030 and a high income economy by 2050.

Hue asked Cambodia to continue to support in searching, collecting and repatriating remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia, and to renovate, manage and protect the Cambodia - Vietnam Friendship Monuments in the country.

He also asked Cambodia to continue to create conditions and help the Vietnamese community stabilize their lives and integrate well into their host community.

Sudary for her part welcomed Hue’s proposals and said Cambodia would do its best to fulfil its relevant commitments. She affirmed that Cambodia would continue to assist Cambodian Vietnamese who lack legal documents through civil law.

Both host and guest also stressed the need to promote bilateral cooperation in education-training, people-to-people exchanges, transportation and tourism; well manage the common border; speed up border demarcation and border marker planting on the remaining 16% of the workload.

With regard to parliamentary cooperation, the two sides agreed to increase visit exchanges to share experience in perfecting legislation, and support each other at multilateral forums such as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the Inter-parliamentary Union, and the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum.

They vowed to work closely alongside the National Assembly of Laos to successfully organize the first parliamentary leaders’ summit of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam in Laos.

They affirmed ASEAN’s central role in regional architecture as well as the bloc’s common principled stance on the East Sea to ensure security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation in line with international law. They voiced their strong support for joint efforts to resolve disputes by peaceful means, seriously and fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, and soon achieve a substantive, effective and efficient Code of Conduct (COC) in accordance with international law and UNCLOS 1982.

Cambodian National Assembly chairwoman Khuon Sudary is in Hanoi for a three-day working visit to Vietnam at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Vuong Dinh Hue.
