President Mohammed Shahabuddin hails Bangladesh-Vietnam relations

VOV.VN - President Mohammed Shahabuddin on September 22 highly valued Bangladesh-Vietnam relations during his meeting with Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Vuong Dinh Hue who is on an official visit to Bangladesh.

Shahabuddin welcomed Hue’s visit and highlighted the valuable support both Bangladesh and Vietnam provided each other in their past struggle for national liberation.

Bangladesh always considers Vietnam as a model of development, and it wishes to further promote the friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, Shahabuddin told Hue.

He spoke highly the results of the September 21 talks between the two countries’ legislative leaders which he said, together with cooperation documents signed during the visit would create a firm foundation for the two legislatures to strengthen cooperation moving forward.

Hue for his part affirmed that Vietnam is ready to support Bangladesh in ensuring food security as evidenced in the signing of an extension of a Memorandum of Understanding on rice trade for 2022 – 2027.

Besides rice, Vietnam can also export products that Bangladesh is interested in, such as agricultural machinery, raw materials, household goods, electronics, processed agricultural and aquatic products, he said.

He underlined the need for the two countries to ramp up cooperation in agriculture and aquaculture, green textiles, education - training, science - technology, and climate change response.

He also informed his host about a joint business forum to be held during his visit in order to fully tap into each other’s lucrative markets.

Shahabuddin voiced his support for the organization of the joint business forum and the launch of a direct air route, which he said would give the two countries a great chance to make breakthroughs in economic cooperation, as well as culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges. He proposed that Vietnam encourage businesses to invest in Bangladesh’s special economic zones.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Hue affirmed that Vietnam support Bangladesh in fostering cooperation with ASEAN.

He respectfully conveyed President Vo Van Thuong’s invitation to President Mohammed Shahabuddin to visit Vietnam, and the President happily accepted the invitation.
