PM welcomes Marubeni’s investment expansion plan in Vietnam

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on November 13 received Marubeni President and CEO Kakinoki Masumi who revealed the Japanese group’s plan to pour billions of US dollars more into Vietnam in the coming time.

Both host and guest shared the view that the Vietnam - Japan extensive strategic partnership is developing substantively in various fields on the back of increasingly enhanced political trust.

Japan is Vietnam’s leading economic partner, the largest ODA provider, the second largest labour market, the third largest investment and tourism market, and the fourth largest trading partner. People-to-people exchanges are increasingly expanding with nearly 100 pairs of localities having developed friendly and cooperative relations.

About 500,000 Vietnamese nationals are residing, working and studying in Japan, becoming the second largest foreign community in the North-eastern country, contributing practically to its socio-economic development.

Chinh briefed his guest on Vietnam’s attractive investment environment, saying more and more Japanese firms have chosen the Southeast Asian country as an ideal investment destination and most of them have desired to expand operations in the country.

Masumi for his part affirmed that Vietnam is Marubeni’s major market in Asia, with its investment injected into imports-exports, construction of thermal power plants and industrial factories, food processing, and textiles.

The group has poured approximately JPY90 billion into Vietnam since 1991, creating jobs for 7,500 local people. It plans to funnel billions of US dollars more into its projects in Vietnam in the fields of energy, processing, exports, and infrastructure development.

Masumi expressed his hope that the Government would direct ministries, agencies and localities to promote the implementation of the group’s projects in the country.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed Marubeni’s investment expansion plan, and assured that the government stays ready to work alongside foreign businesses to protect their interests and iron out their snags.

According to the PM, Vietnam is focusing on innovation, digital transformation, green transformation, renewable energy development, and e-commerce development. He suggested that Marubeni support Vietnam in human resource training, technology transfer, and management experience in those fields.

He also suggested that Marubeni help strongly deploy trade promotion activities, connect businesses, promote the export of key Vietnamese farm products, and facilitate supply chain links between Vietnam and Japan to engage in the global value chain.
