Vietnam and Japan boost cooperation in spearhead industries, suggests PM

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Japan should boost cooperation in spearhead industries such as green transformation, digital transformation, innovation, and semiconductor chip manufacturing, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Nishimura Yasutoshi in Hanoi on November 3.

Receiving the minister, Chinh proposed that Japan continue to facilitate its market access for Vietnamese farm products, especially fresh fruits, and support the development of biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries in Vietnam.

To this end, he expected that Japan would share experiences in building and perfecting institutions, training human resources, transferring technology, providing capital and improving governance capacity for Vietnam to develop these industries.

Chinh also proposed that the Japanese Government provide new generation ODA for Vietnam’s large-scale strategic infrastructure development projects such as the North-South high-speed railway line.

He stressed the need for the two sides to further strengthen political trust through visit exchanges, enhance connection and cooperation between localities and businesses, and promote tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

He asked Japan to simplify visa procedures to facilitate tourism cooperation, and at the same time create favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study and work stably in their host country.

The Vietnamese PM hailed the results of the recent sixth meeting of the Vietnam-Japan Joint Committee on Cooperation in Industry, Trade and Energy in Hanoi, and said both sides should effectively deploy cooperation contents in the minutes of the meeting.

Vietnam encourages and creates the best possible conditions for Japanese businesses to invest in the country for sustainable development and mutual benefits, he assured his guest.

Chinh also proposed that Japan support Vietnamese businesses in engaging more deeply in its global supply chain, and closely coordinate with Vietnam in effectively implementing Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) initiative.

Yasutoshi for his part welcomed Chinh’s proposals and said the Japanese side would coordinate closely with Vietnamese ministries and agencies to promote cooperation in all fields, especially in technology transfer and human resource training, as well as cooperation in multilateral mechanisms, especially the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Japan expects the two sides to develop and implement flagship projects, in the fields of semiconductor chip manufacturing, artificial intelligence, innovation, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, health care and seafood processing, as well as in exploring, exploiting, and processing rare earth, said the minister.

The minister also affirmed that Japan supports Vietnam’s development goal to become a modern industrial nation by 2045 and reduce net emissions to zero by 2050.
