PM encourages GE Vernova to expand investment in Vietnam
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on GE Vernova to expand its investment and establish long-term strategic cooperation in Vietnam, contributing to the country’s energy security, infrastructure development, and commitments to a green, clean, and sustainable energy transition.

The PM made the request during his reception in Hanoi on September 30 for María Victoria “Maví” Zingoni, CEO of Power at GE Vernova (USA) along with her delegation during their working visit to Vietnam.
He highlighted that, nearly two years after the establishment of the Vietnam–US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, bilateral ties have deepened in a practical and effective manner. Among these, economic, trade, investment, science, and technology cooperation continues to be the key pillar and driving force.
Vietnam is making strong efforts to achieve its long-term development goals of becoming a modern industrialized upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income developed economy by 2045. To achieve this, he said, the demand for energy, especially clean and sustainable electricity, is both immense and urgent. Vietnam also aims to integrate further into the ASEAN power grid, ensuring regional energy security and safety.
The Prime Minister encouraged GE Vernova to expand its long-term investment and consider Vietnam a strategic base in the Asia-Pacific region; establish an R&D centre in Vietnam; participate in power generation and grid infrastructure projects, including LNG power plants, substations, transmission systems, and digital energy solutions.
He also proposed that GE Vernova contribute to policy development, transfer advanced technologies, and help train a high-quality workforce for the energy sector. He expected that the US firm would explore hydrogen power projects to support Vietnam’s transition toward a green and low-carbon energy future.
The PM also asked GE Vernova to partner with major Vietnamese energy corporations such as Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and PetroVietnam, and support the country in trade negotiations with the United States, acting as a bridge to convey accurate assessments and messages to the US administration, helping to further deepen bilateral relations.

For her part, the CEO of GE Vernova shared that GE Vernova operates in over 100 countries, generating a revenue of US$35 billion in 2024, and has been present in Vietnam since 1993, currently employing around 1,700 staff.
GE Vernova is involved in several major energy projects in Vietnam, including the Nhon Trach 3 & 4 thermal power plants, Son La and Lai Chau hydropower plants, and various solar, wind, and power transmission projects.
The CEO emphasised that Vietnam is considered a safe base for the firm’s operations and expressed GE’s desire to expand cooperation, including in supplying LNG power equipment, substations, transmission solutions, and digital technologies for the power sector.
She also affirmed the firm’s commitment to improving its supply chain to meet Vietnam’s needs and pledged to help address Vietnam–US trade issues, as raised by the Prime Minister.
