Party leader supports FedEx’s investment expansion plan in Vietnam
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam affirmed his support for FedEx to expand its operations in Vietnam, particularly in key areas such as infrastructure, services, and transportation, during his meeting in Hanoi on February 25 with Frederick Smith, founder and executive chairman of the firm.

He highly appreciated the achievements FedEx has recorded over the past 30 years of operation in Vietnam. He also thanked the firm and the executive chairman personally for their contributions and support in fostering Vietnam’s socio-economic development.
To Lam highlighted the strong progress in Vietnam–US relations in recent years, especially in 2025, as the two countries celebrate 30 years of diplomatic ties and have recently upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
He shared that Vietnam is currently promoting three strategic breakthroughs, including infrastructure development. He expected that FedEx would continue to expand its operation in Vietnam to help position it as a key hub in the international logistics network.
He urged FedEx to work closely with relevant Vietnamese authorities to swiftly and effectively implement its business expansion plan in the country.
Smith for his part said he is particularly impressed by Vietnam’s development achievements, especially its rapid infrastructure growth and its uniquely advantageous geographical location – the two key factors that are paving the way for Vietnam to become a dynamic economic hub in the region.
He affirmed that FedEx is proud to have contributed to Vietnam’s development over the past three decades. He held that Vietnam possesses all the necessary conditions to become a major logistics hub in the region and the world.
Smith expressed his firm’s desire to further expand its operations in Vietnam, including strengthening its presence at Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai airports, as well as exploring expansion opportunities at Long Thanh and Gia Binh airports in the near future.
Through these efforts, he said, FedEx aims to support Vietnam’s economy by enhancing its transportation capabilities and strengthening its integration into the global supply chain.
At the meeting, the Party leader also acknowledged FedEx’s contributions to medical programmes supporting heart and eye patients, as well as its partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in pediatric cancer treatment. He encouraged further cooperation in this field.
In response, Smith pledged to work with St. Jude to improve the efficiency of the model, aiming to increase the pediatric cancer survival rate in Vietnam to 94%, matching that of the United States.
