Vietnam and US sketch out cooperation plans for 2025
VOV.VN - Vietnam and the United State will work together to promote high-level delegation exchanges, particularly in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations in 2025.
They will also accelerate efforts to address war legacies, maintain the momentum of economic, trade, and investment cooperation, and enhance collaboration in science and technology, as well as defense and security, to bring tangible benefits to the people of both sides.
The agreement was reached during phone talks on January 24 between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Congratulating Rubio on his recent appointment as US chief diplomat, Son affirmed that the US is one of Vietnam’s most important Comprehensive Strategic Partners. He appreciated the US’ support for a strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam and expressed a desire for both sides to continue closely cooperating to further enhance their partnership under the Vietnam-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework.
Through Rubio, Son extended congratulations from Vietnam’s Party, State, and Government leaders to President Donald Trump and Vice President James David Vance.
Rubio highlighted the solid foundation of US-Vietnam relations, based on shared interests. He expressed his hope for the two countries to continue building a more effective Comprehensive Strategic Partnership on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations.
He also commended Son’s priorities and strategic proposals to advance bilateral ties, and emphasized that the US-Vietnam relationship is a model for international relations, underpinned by shared interests and common values that will drive further progress.
Both sides also discussed the importance of advancing the ASEAN-US Strategic Partnership, the Mekong-US Partnership, and ASEAN’s central role in the region. They exchanged views on the East Sea issue and underscored the importance of dialogue and contributions to peace, stability, cooperation, and regional development.
On this occasion, Son reiterated his invitation for Rubio to visit Vietnam, and the invitation was accepted with pleasure.
In celebration of the Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025, the Secretary, on behalf of US leadership, extended New Year greetings to the leaders and people of Vietnam.
