Party chief To Lam meets Belarus Security Council Secretary
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam met State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Alexander Volfovich in Hanoi on December 3, highlighting Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening its traditional friendship and expanding the countries’ newly established strategic partnership.
Party leader Lam welcomed Volfovich and his delegation, affirming Vietnam values ties with Belarus and seeks to advance cooperation across politics, security, trade, science and technology, education, culture, tourism and emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, blockchain and cybersecurity.
He recalled his substantive talks with President Alexander Lukashenko during an official visit to Belarus in May, and asked Volfovich to convey Vietnam’s appreciation for Belarus’ condolences following recent typhoons in the country.
The Vietnamese leader stressed that bilateral relations, tested over time and built on political trust, provided a solid foundation for expanding cooperation. He urged both sides to actively implement high-level agreements and accelerate concrete joint projects in areas where the two countries have complementary strengths.
On security cooperation, the General Secretary welcomed progress made by both countries’ agencies, saying coordination should continue in line with national laws and international norms to effectively respond to traditional and non-traditional security threats.
The top leader noted positive developments in other sectors, highlighting the launch of a direct Minsk–Phu Quoc flight in October and a sharp rise in bilateral trade in the first nine months of 2025. However, he said, both sides should aim beyond the current hundreds of millions of dollars level and intensify trade promotion to raise awareness of each country’s products.
For his part, Volfovich conveyed greetings from President Lukashenko and briefed his host on his meetings with Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and other agencies.
He praised Vietnam’s development achievements and rising international standing, and said the establishment of the Strategic Partnership during General Secretary To Lam’s visit to Minsk marked a major milestone and new impetus for cooperation. Belarus, he said, considers Vietnam an important and trusted partner in the Asia–Pacific region.
He affirmed that Belarus’ Security Council would actively support the implementation of high-level agreements, helping advance the Strategic Partnership in a practical and substantive manner.
The Party leader asked Volfovich to convey his greetings to President Lukashenko and invited the Belarusian leader to visit Vietnam at a suitable time.
