Vietnam seen as Belarus’ top priority partner in Southeast Asia
VOV.VN - Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Aleksandrovich Sivak has highlighted Vietnam as his nation’s top priority partner in Southeast Asia while delivering his remarks at a recent reception in Minsk celebrating the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

The event drew around 400 participants, including senior figures from both chambers of the Belarusian parliament, ministries, local authorities, diplomatic missions, international organizations, the business community, and a large number of Vietnamese expatriates. Notably, Belarusian experts and veterans who once supported Vietnam during wartime also joined the celebration.
On behalf of the Belarusian Government, Deputy Prime Minister Sivak expressed pride in revisiting Vietnam’s heroic history of independence, freedom, and national reunification – achievements to which Belarus, then part of the Soviet Union, had contributed. He underscored the long-standing friendship between the two peoples, nurtured through active exchanges at all levels, mutual support at international forums, and particularly people-to-people diplomacy.
Sivak described the state visit to Belarus by Party General Secretary To Lam in May and the signing of the Joint Declaration establishing the Vietnam–Belarus Strategic Partnership as a historic milestone, marking a high degree of political trust and elevating bilateral relations to a new height. He affirmed Belarus’ commitment to fully implementing agreements reached by the two countries’ leaders for the benefit and prosperity of both peoples.
Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Belarus Nguyen Van Trung recalled the historic moment on September 2, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the Declaration of Independence, affirming the principle that “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom,” which became a source of strength for the Vietnamese people in defending and building their nation.
He stressed Vietnam’s appreciation of international solidarity, including that of Belarus, and noted that the elevation of bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership during Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit this May has opened a new chapter in cooperation and development.
Many Belarusian friends their warm sentiments and congratulated Vietnam on its National Day and expressed wishes for continued achievements in nation-building and defence.
The Vietnamese community in Belarus added to the festive spirit with cultural performances and traditional cuisine. Particularly moving was the joint singing of the national anthems of both countries by Vietnamese children born and raised in Belarus, along with the dance performance “A Journey around Vietnam.”
To mark the occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy organized an exhibition on Vietnam’s people, culture, and the two countries’ friendship. Earlier, the embassy met with Vietnamese community representatives, while the Belarusian Friendship Association hosted its own National Day celebration at the Belarusian House of Friendship of Peoples.
