NA leader meet New Zealand Premier in Wellington

VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue who is on an official visit to New Zealand, had a meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in capital Wellington on December 6.

Hue briefed Ardern on the Vietnamese delegation’s major activities in New Zealand, including high level talks, engagement in economic and education forums, and the signing of cooperation documents, and found there is more room for both sides to raise their two-way trade turnover to US$2 billion in 2024.

Vietnam attaches great importance to relations with New Zealand and wishes to further promote the relations in all fields as well as across all channels, he affirmed.

Hue suggested the two sides strengthen cooperation in aviation and tourism, by launching direct flights between their localities so as to facilitate business and tourism.

He also suggested New Zealand remove trade barriers and avoid the application of trade remedies in order to enhance bilateral trade. Vietnam is willing to import goods from New Zealand, and wants to export products, especially agricultural products, to New Zealand, he said.

The top legislator expressed hope New Zealand would open high schools and universities in Vietnam to offer Vietnamese students more choice of study opportunities. He also proposed New Zealand grant working holiday visa and agriculture visa to Vietnamese citizens, giving them the chance to work in New Zealand.

Ardern, for her part, acknowledged Hue’s proposals, and said New Zealand wishes to continue to explore the market and opportunities for economic - trade - investment cooperation with Vietnam.

She hoped the two countries would continue to ramp up education cooperation, and affirmed New Zealand would create conditions for Vietnamese workers, especially skilled workers, to work in the country, with priority given to such fields as health care, construction, and agriculture.

The PM thanked Vietnam for opening its market for New Zealand strawberries and pumpkins, a move that took place less than a month after her Vietnam visit.

Meanwhile, Hue also expressed his wish that the New Zealand Government would continue to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese expatriates to work and contribute to the development of New Zealand as well as to the Vietnam – New Zealand relations.
