VOV.VN - Shortly after arriving in Dakar on July 22 for an official visit to Senegal, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in the African country.

During the meeting, Ambassador to Algeria and concurrently accredited to Senegal Tran Quoc Khanh shared that there are currently around 3,000 Vietnamese and people of Vietnamese origin living in Senegal. The community remains united, closely connected, and maintains strong ties to their homeland.
Representatives of the Vietnamese community, including the Kim Hoi that comprises Senegalese of Vietnamese descent, expressed pride in Vietnam’s recent socio-economic achievements. They vowed to act as a cultural bridge between the two countries, promote Vietnamese culture in Senegal, and contribute to strengthening bilateral cooperation. They also proposed that Vietnam support Senegal in areas such as rice production and agricultural product processing, and enhance educational exchange and cultural preservation for the Vietnamese community.
In his remarks, Chairman Tran Thanh Man conveyed warm greetings from the Vietnamese leaders and noted that the official visit, made at the invitation of Senegal’s National Assembly President Malick Ndiaye, is an important opportunity to strengthen political trust and deepen the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries. During the visit, he said, the two legislative bodies will sign a cooperation agreement and co-chair a policy forum on promoting cooperation in agriculture, trade, and investment.
The National Assembly Chairman commended the Kim Hoi for its role in preserving cultural identity and strengthening community ties. He encouraged the organisation to maintain close coordination with Vietnamese associations at home, update the community on national developments, and help promote the image of Vietnam among Senegalese and international friends. He praised the Vietnamese community in Senegal for its unity, resilience, and hard work in overcoming challenges and building a stable life.

The Chairman also asked the Embassy to further support the community by providing timely information on Party policies regarding overseas Vietnamese. He emphasised the need for coordination with relevant ministries, especially the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, to teach Vietnamese language, support legal matters, and improve living and learning conditions for the community.
Chairman Man extended his best wishes to the Vietnamese community in Senegal, encouraging them to stay resilient and thrive. He also expressed gratitude to the National Assembly and Government of Senegal for their continued support of the Vietnamese community and hoped such support would persist in the future.
