Morocco willing to enhance parliamentary cooperation with Vietnam

VOV.VN - The Moroccan House of Councillors is ready to work closely with the House of Representatives to expand parliamentary cooperation with Vietnam, particularly at multilateral inter-parliamentary forums focused on development issues for mutual benefits, said House President Mohamed Ould Errachid.

Receiving visiting Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man in Rabat on July 25, Errachid described Vietnam as a close and trusted partner, highlighting the enduring and historically tested relationship between Morocco and Vietnam, including through people-to-people ties.

Conveying greetings from King Mohammed VI to Chairman Man and other senior Vietnamese leaders, he affirmed Morocco's strong commitment to enhancing cooperation with Vietnam. He noted that the two countries have built nearly 65 years of diplomatic ties, rooted in mutual support during their respective struggles for national liberation. Symbols such as the Morocco Gate in Vietnam and the Vietnam Gate in Morocco stand as lasting testaments to this shared history.

He proposed developing joint projects within the framework of South–South cooperation, especially in sustainable development initiatives across Africa. He highlighted the strategic role each country can play as a regional gateway to support broader connectivity and cooperation.

Chairman Man, for his part, congratulated Morocco on its notable socio-economic progress, particularly in the implementation of its “Vision 2030.” He stressed that his visit aimed to consolidate and deepen the partnership between the two legislative bodies, while opening new avenues for bilateral cooperation in trade, finance, and investment.

He highlighted Morocco’s strategic position in North Africa and its network of free trade agreements with over 50 countries, identifying it as a vital gateway for Vietnamese goods to access African and European markets. He proposed initiating discussions on a new trade agreement to replace the 2001 document, with a view to eliminating tariff barriers and enhancing market access for both countries. He also called for strengthened trade promotion, including fairs and exhibitions, to boost bilateral trade volume.

In the financial sector, Chairman Man recommended closer cooperation in banking and finance, including the development of transparent and efficient payment systems to minimise risks in international transactions. He also requested that Morocco share its experience in developing international financial centres.

Both sides agreed to encourage mutual investment in high-potential areas such as high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, and food processing. They also stressed the importance of transparent market information and policy updates to support businesses in seizing emerging opportunities.

Regarding parliamentary cooperation, the two leaders committed to deeper engagement at international platforms such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA). They agreed to enhance exchanges between young and female parliamentarians and to organise regular forums and seminars to share legislative experience and advance long-term cooperative initiatives.

They also consented to promote high-level delegation exchanges and expand dialogue on legislative processes, including legal frameworks for digital transformation, climate change adaptation, and green economy development. Parliamentary diplomacy, they affirmed, should play a stronger role in linking ministries, sectors, and businesses, while reinforcing mechanisms for ongoing cooperation in key areas such as industrialisation, energy transition, education, health care, and sustainable development.

The two sides exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual concern, underscoring the importance of resolving disputes peacefully, without the use or threat of force, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.

On this occasion, Chairman Tran Thanh Man extended an invitation to President of the House of Councillors Mohamed Ould Errachid to pay an official visit to Vietnam, and the invitation was accepted with pleasure.
