More opportunities ahead for Vietnam – US cooperation in semiconductor and AI development

VOV.VN - Vietnam and the United States hold great potential for cooperation in semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) development, and cooperation in the fields will create numerous opportunities for businesses of the two sides to leverage their respective advantages, said Party General Secretary and President of Vietnam To Lam.

Speaking at a seminar in New York on September 22 (local time), To Lam noted that Vietnam has significant strengths and opportunities to develop its semiconductor and AI industries. Over the past 20 years, he said the country has produced hundreds of thousands of programmers and millions of IT professionals, establishing a strong workforce in AI and semiconductors as one of its key strengths.

“Many of our localities are eager to attract US investors to their regions. We are also creating the best infrastructure and conditions for investment in Vietnam. At today’s seminar, many leaders from our localities hope to meet with investors to develop specific projects in these fields,” he said.

According to the leader, Vietnam is committed to rapid and sustainable development based on science, technology, and innovation. It has identified three strategic breakthroughs for socio-economic development until 2030, namely institutional reform, infrastructure development, and human resource development, that will help restructure the economy and innovate the growth model.

Among these, he said the development of the semiconductor and AI industries is an objective necessity, a strategic choice, and a priority for advancing science and technology, which will also stimulate the growth of other supporting industries.

He emphasized that Vietnam is at a crucial juncture for transitioning towards a digital economy, green economy, and circular economy, prioritizing strong development in science-technology, and innovation to significantly enhance productivity, quality, and competitiveness.

“In this context, Vietnam encourages and prioritizes selective investment, targeting high-tech projects in semiconductors, AI, research and development, renewable energy, green hydrogen, as well as building synchronized infrastructure - all areas where US investors have significant potential and strengths,” stressed the leader.

He opined that Vietnam always values international cooperation and understands that success in high-tech fields, especially in semiconductors and AI, can only be achieved together by building a robust value chain. He welcomed US businesses and organizations to Vietnam to collaboratively develop innovative and sustainable solutions.

During the seminar, leaders of top US and global technology organizations highlighted the vast potential and opportunities for cooperation with Vietnam in developing these industries. They praised the country’s strategy for advancing the semiconductor and AI industries, and expressed confidence that with the outlined directions, Vietnam will become an attractive destination for investors in these fields and will achieve significant success in the future.

The seminar attracted the participation of leading technology organizations in the semiconductor and AI fields in the US, such as AMD, Google, Marvell, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), and SEMI - the industry association representing the global electronics manufacturing and design supply chain.

Party General Secretary and President of Vietnam To Lam is in New York for the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
