Japan, Vietnam boost cooperation on ICT, semiconductor
VOV.VN - Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung held working sessions with various leaders of Japanese ministries, sectors, and groups, as well as Vietnamese enterprises, to discuss a range of measures aimed at bolstering linkages in the field of information and communications technology (ICT), within the framework of his visit to Japan running from August 4 to August 6.
While there, Minister Hung held separate bilateral talks with Japanese Minister for Digital Transformation at the Digital Agency Taro Kono; and Nishiguchi Akihito, executive vice president of Japan Post.
He also signed a Memorandum of Understanding relating to co-operation in ICT and postal services with the Japanese Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Matsumoto Takeaki.
In his meeting held with State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kozuki Ryosuke, the Vietnamese official briefed the host on Vietnamese plans to develop a series of major policies and strategies concerning the ICT and semiconductor industries, with a focus on accelerating training and the overall development of human resources in the semiconductor sector.
Meanwhile, Kozuki Ryosuki shared the Far East nation’s experience in developing these industries, highlighting that the semiconductor industry is widely considered to be as crucial as the automotive industry.
Japan is therefore focusing on mobilizing resources and supporting firms as they in advance in key technologies such as semiconductors and AI. However, the Japanese side is also facing challenges, particularly in ensuring a sufficient supply of workforce, he added.
Regarding digital infrastructure development, both sides discussed and consented to bolster collaboration efforts in developing the 5G open radio access network (Open RAN) and supporting their respective businesses in promptly launching joint projects on product research and development to serve both domestic and global markets.
As part of the occasion, Minister Hung also held meetings with NTT Docomo and Rakuten, the largest and fourth-largest mobile network operators in Japan, respectively.
They exchanged experience in applying the 5G technology based on the Open RAN standard.
