Liechtenstein Prime Minister warmly welcomed in Hanoi on Vietnam visit
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung chaired an official welcoming ceremony for Liechtenstein Prime Minister Brigitte Haas at the Government Office in Hanoi on October 18, as part of her official visit to Vietnam.
The visit, made at the invitation of Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, marks the first visit to Vietnam by a Liechtenstein prime minister since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 2008.
During the ceremony, the two leaders stood on the podium as military bands played the national anthems of both countries. They then paid their respects to the military colours and reviewed the guard of honour of the Vietnam People’s Army before introducing their respective delegations.
Following the welcoming ceremony, the two prime ministers held talks to review bilateral cooperation and discuss future priorities. They also witnessed the signing of a tax agreement between Vietnam and Liechtenstein.
Expanding economic cooperation
Vietnam and Liechtenstein have maintained friendly relations and active cooperation since establishing diplomatic ties, with both countries emphasising multilateralism, international law and cooperation for peace, stability and sustainable development.
Economic and trade cooperation has emerged as an area with further potential. Both sides have worked to advance negotiations on a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), comprising Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. Negotiations concluded on July 2, 2026, and both sides signed the deal in Hanoi on October 18, 2026.
The two countries also see opportunities to strengthen cooperation in investment, science and technology, and innovation, building on their respective economic strengths.
PM Haas’s visit is expected to provide fresh momentum for bilateral relations, strengthen political trust and promote the effective implementation of bilateral and multilateral agreements to which both countries are party. It also offers an opportunity to deepen practical cooperation and enhance Vietnam’s role as a bridge to Southeast Asia for Liechtenstein and its businesses.
