Liechtenstein Prime Minister begins Vietnam visit to boost bilateral ties
VOV.VN - Liechtenstein Prime Minister Brigitte Haas arrived in Hanoi on October 17 for an official visit to Vietnam, with the two countries looking to expand economic cooperation following the conclusion of Vietnam–EFTA free trade agreement negotiations.
Prime Minister Haas is visiting Vietnam from October 17 to 19 at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.
She was welcomed at Noi Bai International Airport by Minister of Finance Ngo Van Tuan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang and Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein Chau Mai Anh.
FTA offers fresh opportunities for economic cooperation
Vietnam and Liechtenstein established diplomatic relations on July 2, 2008. Bilateral trade reached approximately US$9.8 million in 2025, with Vietnamese exports to Liechtenstein valued at around US$90,000 and imports at US$9.71 million.
Liechtenstein currently has one active foreign direct investment project in Vietnam, with registered capital of US$4 million. The project, operated by TIETEX CAPITAL AG in Dong Nai City, focuses on manufacturing shoe insoles, as well as import, export and wholesale distribution.
Speaking to the press about the significance of the visit and prospects for bilateral relations, Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein Chau Mai Anh described Prime Minister Haas’s trip as an important milestone and a sign of Liechtenstein’s regard for Vietnam. She said it would provide fresh momentum for more substantive, effective and in-depth cooperation.
The visit comes at a favourable time, following the conclusion of negotiations on a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) in July 2026. The agreement is expected to provide an important framework for expanding Vietnam’s economic relations with Liechtenstein and other EFTA members, facilitating trade, investment and business links.
The ambassador also highlighted opportunities to develop new areas of cooperation, particularly by connecting Liechtenstein businesses with Vietnamese partners in high-tech industries, precision engineering, automation, digital transformation and innovation.
The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to explore practical ways to strengthen economic ties and broaden cooperation in areas where businesses from the two countries can complement each other.
