Laos wants to learn from Vietnam’s lawmaking experience
VOV.VN - Laos wishes to learn from Vietnam’s lawmaking experience, especially in the fields of finance, economics, auditing and investment, as the Lao legislature seeks to fine-tune its legal system and enhance its role in building and approving policies aimed at the country's socio-economic development.
Lao National Assembly Vice Chairman Sommad Pholsena was speaking during his talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Duc Hai, in the central city of Da Nang on September 4.
Phonsena, who was visiting Vietnam, said his visit is to concretise the cooperation agreement between the legislatures of the two countries and leaders of the two parliaments.
“In the September 5 symposium, we eagerly look forward to learning from Vietnam’s development experience,” said the Lao legislator.
“I am confident that the efforts and close cooperation between the two legislatures will contribute to reinforcing and enhancing the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, and peoples of Vietnam and Laos.”
Hai for his part praised the growing and more substantive ties between the two legislatures, through the facilitation of visit exchanges of delegations, work experience sharing and exchange programmes between parliamentary committees and friendship groups.
A significant milestone was the first Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam (CLV) Parliamentary Summit held in Laos in December 2023, which elevated cooperation among the three legislative bodies to its highest level and contributed to refining high-level cooperation mechanisms among the three countries at the Party, Government and parliamentary channels.
Both sides committed to maintaining frequent high-level exchanges through all channels, leveraging the effectiveness of annual meetings between the two Politburos, sessions of the Inter-Governmental committees, and experience-sharing exchanges between the two legislatures.
They agreed to actively implement the new cooperation agreement between the two legislatures, support each other at global and regional inter-parliamentary forums, and coordinate efforts to make breakthroughs in all areas, particularly in economic cooperation.
Hai suggested that the Lao side assist in removing obstacles to facilitate the operation and investment of Vietnamese businesses in their host country, focusing on connecting the two economies, opening up Laos’ economy towards the sea through projects like the Vung Ang and other Vietnamese ports, continuing to cooperate in monitoring and promoting agreements between the two countries, and addressing difficulties and obstacles in strategic cooperation projects.
Vietnam is ready to support Laos in effectively fulfilling its role as Chair of ASEAN/AIPA this year, thereby contributing to enhancing Laos’ role and position in the region and globally, Hai told his guest.
