Laos National Assembly vice chairman visits Quang Nam province
VOV.VN - A delegation of the Laos National Assembly led by Sommad Pholsena, vice chairman of the Lao legislature, made a call at THACO AUTO of Truong Hai Group Corporation in Quang Nam province on September 4.
Receiving the Lao official, Nguyen Minh Triet, Secretary of the Quang Nam Party Committee, noted that Quang Nam holds a crucial position in the East-West Economic Corridor, serving as the shortest link between the central key economic region of Vietnam and southern Laos through the Nam Giang international border gate. The province has a longstanding tradition of friendly cooperation and close ties with the provinces in southern Laos.
He praised THACO for its significant contributions to local socio-economic development, accounting for over 70% of the province’s industrial production value and budget revenue annually. Currently, THACO is focusing its investments in southern Laos with several large-scale projects.
He expressed his belief that the group would continue to accompany and make significant contributions to the development of southern Laos in particular and Laos as a whole, helping to reinforce the special bond of friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.
Tran Ba Duong, chairman of the Board of Directors of THACO, revealed the group is investing in an integrated agricultural complex focused on specialized fruit cultivation combined with large-scale livestock farming, covering a total area of over 27,000 hectares in Attapeu and Sekong provinces in Laos.
The group has also implemented the Nong Khang Airport project in Xamneua District, Houaphan Province, with a total value of US$82 million. The airport is currently operational with a frequency of 22 flights per week.
It is also developing a logistics network for transporting goods from southern Laos and northeastern Thailand to Vietnam.
Laos National Assembly Vice Chairman Sommad Pholsena highly appreciated THACO’s investment strategy in Laos, and said he would recommend to the National Assembly, Government, and relevant ministries and localities in southern Laos to provide the best possible conditions for THACO to effectively implement its projects in Laos.
Laos will work together with Vietnam to promote trade and logistics activities between Quang Nam province and the provinces of southern Laos, contributing to the enhancement of the friendly cooperative relationship between the two countries, he said.
