Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba concludes Vietnam visit

VOV.VN - Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and his spouse have left Hanoi, concluding an official visit to Vietnam from April 27 to 29 at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse.

Ishiba and his entourage were seen off at Noi Bai International Airport by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu.

During his visit, Ishiba had talks with the Vietnamese PM, and met with other senior Vientmaese leaders, including Party General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and National Assembly Tran Thanh Man.

Both sides welcomed the substantial progress achieved since upgrading their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023. They outlined major directions to elevate bilateral ties further, based on principles of sincerity, trust, mutual benefit, and practical cooperation.

They agreed to strengthen cooperation across five key pillars - political relations; economic and human resource connectivity; security and defence; science and technology with green transformation; and cooperation at multilateral forums.

Vietnam and Japan also pledged to enhance coordination in regional and global platforms such as the United Nations and ASEAN, contributing to peace, stability, and sustainable development amid a complex and rapidly evolving international landscape.

Both PMs witnessed the signing of cooperation documents between the two countries’ ministries and agencies, held a joint press conference, and delivered keynote speeches at the Vietnam–Japan Forum on strategic industries, high technology, green transformation, and semiconductors.

On this occasion, the two countries released a Joint Communique, reaffirming their commitment to deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and enhancing cooperation across multiple fields.

As part of the visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse hosted a breakfast for Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and his spouse, where they enjoyed Vietnamese coffee and toured the Vietnam National Museum of History that showcases the country’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

Ishiba also visited the Vietnam-Japan University - a symbol of bilateral educational cooperation, and toured the Thang Long Industrial Park, including a visit to the Canon Vietnam factory. He also held discussions with representatives of Japanese businesses operating in Vietnam.
