Japan pledges continued support for Vietnam’s development
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru has affirmed that Japan will continue to assist Vietnam's development by strengthening cooperation in high-tech industries, high-quality human resource training, and semiconductors.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had a meeting on April 28 in Hanoi with Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru during his official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The top Vietnamese legislator welcomed Ishiba Shigeru's first official visit to Vietnam in his capacity as Prime Minister of Japan after the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Recalling his official visit to Japan in December 2024, which included meetings with the Emperor and Empress as well as discussions with Japanese leaders, Chairman Tran Thanh Man shared his profound impressions of Japan’s people and country and thanked PM Ishiba Shigeru, the National Diet of Japan, and the people of Japan for their warm hospitality during his visit.
PM Ishiba Shigeru expressed gratitude for the warm and respectful reception from Vietnam’s high-ranking leaders and shared his joy in meeting the Vietnamese NA leader again during Vietnam's celebration of the liberation of the South and national reunification. Regarding Vietnam’s development since his last visit 35 years ago, Ishiba Shigeru affirmed that his nation will continue to be an important partner, accompanying Vietnam in the new era.
Both leaders expressed their pleasure at the positive development of the Vietnam-Japan relationship after nearly two years since it was upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and consented to consolidate political trust, promote exchanges, and increase delegation visits between the two parties and legislative bodies.
Chairman Man hailed the results of PM Ishiba Shigeru’s meetings with Party General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and his discussions with PM Pham Minh Chinh, covering a wide range of topics about bilateral relations.
Man evaluated that this visit had opened many new opportunities for cooperation in a multitude of fields, particularly in economics, trade, science and technology, digital transformation, high-quality human resource training, labor, people-to-people exchange between the two nations.
PM Ishiba Shigeru expressed his hope that the two legislative bodies will enhance exchanges and share experiencess regarding the organization of parliamentary elections.
Thanking Japan for its valuable support and cooperation in the legislative field, as well as Japan’s ODA and FDI contributions to Vietnam's socio-economic development, Chairman Tran Thanh Man reaffirmed that Vietnam considers Japan one of its most important long-term partners and proposed that both sides step up cooperation in four priority areas: economics, human resource training, people-to-people exchanges, and locality-to-locality cooperation.
Man suggested strengthening economic links, helping Vietnamese businesses engage in the global supply chain, encouraging Japanese investment in high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, and infrastructure, and expanding high-quality training programs, student and labor exchanges, which will contribute to resolving Japan’s aging population issue while enhancing Vietnam’s capabilities.
Chairman Tran Thanh Man also expressed the wish for both sides to increase cultural, tourism, and local cooperation activities, and to continue supporting the organization of the Mekong cultural tourism day in Can Tho City, and deepening the friendship between the people of Vietnam and Japan.
PM Ishiba Shigeru, in turn, confirmed that Japan will continue supporting Vietnam's development through beefing up cooperation in high-tech industries, high-quality human resource training, and semiconductors. He also agreed to continue encouraging Japanese businesses to intensify investment in Vietnamese localities, including Can Tho City. He affirmed Japan’s support for Vietnam in building infrastructure, responding to natural disasters, climate change, green and digital transformation, based on Japan’s strengths. He emphasized promoting labor cooperation and training high-quality human resources.
Having previously served as Japan's Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, PM Ishiba Shigeru mentioned that Japan's agriculture sector was facing many challenges and expressed a desire to further ramp up cooperation in agriculture, including Japan’s support for Vietnam in developing high-tech agriculture and digitizing the agricultural sector.
During the meeting, the two leaders also concurred to boost coordination, share positions, and collaborate on regional and global issues of shared concern. They pledged to continue working closely and effectively at regional and international forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), and more.
On this occasion, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man conveyed his greetings, wishes for good health, and an invitation for the President of the House of Councilors and House of Representatives Speaker to visit Vietnam soon.
