International media highlight depth of Vietnam-Denmark ties
VOV.VN - Danish and international media have highlighted the depth of relations between Vietnam and Denmark during the three-day state visit by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam and his spouse, Ngo Phuong Ly, from October 19 to 21.
Coverage on October 19 by Danish media and international outlets, including Canada-based Ground News, the UK’s Hello! magazine, Yahoo and US magazine Town & Country, highlighted the countries’ 55 years of diplomatic relations and their Green Strategic Partnership. Reports also noted the participation of Crown Prince Christian in the state visit, describing it as a sign of the Danish Royal Family’s engagement in strengthening bilateral ties.
Several reports focused on the state banquet hosted by King Frederik X and Queen Mary at Christiansborg Palace in honour of the Vietnamese leader and his spouse.
According to Town & Country, Crown Prince Christian, the eldest child of King Frederik X and Queen Mary and heir to the Danish throne, attended his first state banquet on October 19, shortly after celebrating his 21st birthday. His participation added a notable moment to the royal programme accompanying the visit.
The King and the Vietnamese leader visited the Danish Parliament and the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen, while Queen Mary and Ms Ngo Phuong Ly attended cultural engagements, including visits to a library and the Royal Danish Theatre.
The visit coincides with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations, established in 1971. Both the Danish Royal House and international media have highlighted the long-standing ties between the two countries and the potential to expand cooperation in areas such as green solutions, healthcare and food.
Danish media also reported on King Frederik X’s decision to bestow the Order of the Elephant on the Vietnamese leader.
The Danish Royal House describes it as the country’s oldest and most distinguished royal order of chivalry, with origins dating to around 1460. The order is primarily bestowed upon members of royal families and heads of state, making the award a notable feature of the state visit.
The Danish Royal House has also highlighted the people-to-people and commercial links between the two countries. Its official statement said more than 18,200 Danish citizens of Vietnamese origin live in Denmark, while approximately 150 Danish companies operate in Vietnam.
The visit focuses on strengthening cooperation in green solutions, healthcare and food, while reaffirming shared commercial interests and building on the Green Strategic Partnership established in 2023.
Danish media also drew attention to growing economic links between the two countries, including the presence of major Danish companies such as Pandora and LEGO in Vietnam.
The expansion of trade and investment has become an important dimension of bilateral relations, providing further impetus for high-level engagement and efforts to broaden cooperation.
Reports also pointed to opportunities to raise bilateral cooperation to a new level, particularly through stronger trade and investment ties and collaboration in areas where both countries have complementary strengths.
