Cambodia refutes false claims related to Vietnam’s coastal road project
VOV.VN - Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement firmly on November 24 rejecting false information circulating online that Vietnam was allegedly constructing a sea-crossing road violating the 1982 Agreement on Historic Waters between the two countries.
According to the ministry, rumours on social media claimed that Vietnam was building a coastal road connecting Tien Hai Islet (An Giang Province) to Phu Quoc Island, purportedly encroaching on Cambodia’s historic waters.
The ministry clarified that, no such project exists and no construction activity by Vietnam violates the 1982 agreement, based on confirmation from the Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia and information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh.
The statement further pointed out that the images used in the misleading posts were actually from the ongoing project of the access road leading to the Ha Tien Port - a project entirely within Vietnamese territory.
Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation called for an immediate stop to the spread of such false information, warning that the dissemination of fabricated claims could create misunderstandings and negatively affect the friendly relations between Cambodia and Vietnam.
