Cambodia and Vietnam to launch green investment mechanism

VOV.VN - Cambodia and Vietnam will jointly initiate a green investment mechanism aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as Cambodia develops its third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) under the Paris Agreement framework.

Dr. Eang Sophallet, Minister of Environment of Cambodia, made the confirmation, during a working meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Minh Vu in Phnom Penh on September 16.

The discussion focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields, including environmental protection and economic development, with a special emphasis on natural resource management and support for investment projects.

Sophallet warmly welcomed and endorsed investment projects between the two countries, particularly those in the environmental sector. He also stressed the importance of ASEAN countries speaking with a unified voice to mobilise green finance to address negative impacts caused by microplastics and nanoplastics.

Ambassador Vu appreciated the initiative put forward by the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia and expressed his firm belief in its success in implementing green investment projects. He reaffirmed that Vietnam would work closely with Cambodia to address arising challenges, support enterprises from both countries in strengthening investment, production, and business cooperation, with the shared goal of helping Cambodia achieve high-middle-income status by 2030.
