Vietnam, Cambodia reaffirm strong bilateral ties and border cooperation
VOV.VN - Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia held a virtual discussion, highlighting trust-based relations, high-level exchanges, joint economic initiatives, and efforts to finalize land border demarcation between the two countries.

Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung held an online telephone conversation with Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia on September 11, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Hanoi.
In a friendly atmosphere, Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn conveyed the thanks of the Cambodian People’s Party Chairman and Senate President Hun Sen to Party General Secretary To Lam, the leadership, and the people of Vietnam for the warm welcome and fruitful exchanges during the high-level Cambodian delegation’s participation in the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and Vietnam’s National Day on September 2.
Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn congratulated Vietnam on its successful renewal process, the restructuring of its administrative apparatus from central to local levels, and the maintenance of high economic growth in recent years, emphasizing that Cambodia could learn from Vietnam’s experience in reform and development.
On this occasion, Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn also extended his congratulations to Acting FM Le Hoai Trung on being entrusted with his new responsibilities.
Expressing his thanks for the kind wishes, Trung highlighted that Vietnamese leaders, especially Party General Secretary To Lam, highly valued the Cambodian high-level delegation led by Chairman Hun Sen, as well as the participation of Cambodian armed forces in the parade, which contributed significantly to the success of the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and Vietnam’s National Day celebrations.
Trung congratulated Cambodia on its political and socio-economic achievements in recent years and affirmed that Vietnam will actively support Cambodia in successfully hosting the 2026 Francophonie Summit.
Both sides welcomed the continued consolidation and positive development of relations between the two parties and countries in general, and between the foreign ministries in particular.
To further implement the agreements of the senior leaders, both sides agreed on several major orientations for the near future, including strengthening trust-based relations, increasing exchanges and contacts at high and other levels, and coordinating the effective organization of bilateral and trilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the high-level meeting of the three party leaders of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, as well as the 21st session of the Joint Committee on Economic, Cultural, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation.
In addition to closely coordinating to find breakthroughs in economic, trade, and investment development, both sides will continue to accelerate negotiations between relevant agencies to complete land border demarcation and marker planting toward building a shared borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation, and sustainable development between the two countries.
Hailing the recent positive developments between Cambodia and Thailand, including the successful outcome of the special session of their General Border Committee (GBC) in Koh Kong province on September 10, Acting FM Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam will continue its efforts to contribute to peace and stability in the border areas between the two countries.
