Three groups of visitors from three major Vietnamese airlines, including Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, and Bamboo Airlines, become the first tourists to visit the southern city in the New Year.

The ceremony was hosted by the city’s Department of Tourism, in collaboration with Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

Upon arrival at the airport tourists are presented with flower necklaces and discounts.

The event aims to stimulate greater domestic tourism demand as the country moves into the new normal.

At the welcoming event, Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, said the severe and prolonged impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected targets set for the local tourism industry this year.

Despite facing plenty of difficulties, Ho Chi Minh City has pressed ahead with plans to support the industry and will continue to implement a roadmap aimed at restoring operations of the tourism sector.

She added that the southern metropolis is exerting every effort to reform and diversify products in a bid to attract visitors, while also ensuring safety in the new normal.
