Sales of cement and clinker jump in first quarter

VOV.VN - Sales of cement and clinker for the first quarter jumped 4.6% in volume and 20.1% in value year-on-year to 4.38 million metric tons valued at US$159.19 million, according to the latest statistics of the Vietnam Ministry of Construction.

“The increased sales figures for the first quarter were primarily driven by the growth in construction projects and the recovery of the real estate market,” said the Ministry.

“Bangladesh was the largest overseas market at US$42.78 million, accounting for 27% of export market share. The sales figures represent 20.7% of the country’s target for 2016.”

An essential construction material, cement is typically sold in the form of grey or white powder or ‘clinker’ lumps and modules fused together with limestone and alumino-silicates like clay.

The Ministry forecasts that sales of cement and clinker will rise 4-7% year-on-year to between 75-77 metric tons for 2016.

The country now has 76 cement production lines with a combined production capacity of 82 metric tons per annum.
