Vingroup withdraws from North–South high-speed railway project
VOV.VN - Vingroup has officially submitted a document to the Government requesting to withdraw its registration to invest in the North–South high-speed railway project, citing the need to focus resources on strategic infrastructure and energy projects currently assigned for implementation.
According to the document dated December 25, Vingroup proposed withdrawing its investment registration for the North–South high-speed railway project, which the group submitted in May 2025.
Vingroup stated that the decision was carefully considered to ensure maximum concentration of resources on key strategic infrastructure projects recently entrusted to the group. Notably, these include the Olympic Sports Urban Complex in Hanoi, covering more than 9,000 hectares, with its centerpiece being a cluster of high-standard sports facilities, including the Trong Dong (Bronze Drum) National Stadium.
In addition, Vingroup is currently the investor of several major transport infrastructure projects, such as the Ben Thanh – Can Gio high-speed railway and the Hanoi – Quang Ninh high-speed railway. It is also accelerating the implementation of a series of large-scale industrial and energy projects, including the VinMetal steel manufacturing plant, two wind power plants in Ky Anh (Ha Tinh), the Hai Phong LNG thermal power plant, and the Can Gio coastal megacity.
These projects, the group said, require substantial capital, long implementation timelines and strong execution capacity, making it necessary to prioritise the allocation of resources.
Meanwhile, the North–South high-speed railway project has attracted strong interest and investment proposals from several capable and experienced enterprises, such as THACO Group and Vietnam Railways Corporation. As a result, Vingroup’s withdrawal will not affect the project’s implementation progress.
This is a proactive and responsible decision by Vingroup to ensure the effective execution of assigned projects, contributing to the development of modern and sustainable transport infrastructure, energy systems and urban areas, while enhancing national competitiveness and quality of life, said a Vingroup representative.
