Vietnam’s fresh lychees hit French market for 2025 season

VOV.VN - A shipment of more than 2 tonnes of Vietnam’s fresh lychees arrived at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, officially marking the beginning of Vietnam’s 2025 lychee export season to France.

Within just five hours of customs clearance and transport, the juicy fruit was on display at the Viet-Phap supermarket chain in Paris, signalling a strong step forward in Vietnam’s effort to penetrate the European market.

According to Vu Anh Son, head of the Vietnam Trade Office in France, this year’s lychee shipment has met strict EU technical standards with outstanding quality. All stages from logistics, packaging, preservation to quality control have significantly been improved based on lessons learned from the previous year.

“This is part of a series of efforts initiated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, which have been entrusted to the Trade Offices to support and further promote market diversification, enhance adaptability to global fluctuations. It once again affirms the proactive role of Vietnamese enterprises in the process of international integration," said Son.

He also predicted that with more active participation from importers in France, the total volume of lychee exports to this market could reach a new record high this year.

According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Vietnam’s 2025 lychee season is expected to be a bumper crop, with total output estimated at 303,000 tonnes, up approximately 30% compared to 2024.

The surge is attributed to favourable weather conditions during the key stages of flower budding, blooming, fruit setting, and growth. In addition, pest and disease control measures have been effectively implemented.

Businesses are now busy harvesting and process lychees for export to China, Australia, Thailand, Japan, the United States, France and other European Union member states.
