Bac Giang targets premium lychee quality, global market expansion
VOV.VN - Northern Bac Giang province on May 28 hosted a conference to promote the consumption of its signature lychees, key agricultural products, and its One Commune – One Product (OCOP) portfolio in 2025.

Speaking at the event, Pham Van Thinh, vice chairman of the provincial administration, revealed that Bac Giang now cultivates 29,700 hectares of lychee orchards, representing over 60% of its total fruit-growing area. Of this, 16,000 hectares meet VietGAP standards, 204 hectares are certified under GlobalGAP, and 10 hectares are organically grown. This year’s lychee harvest is projected to reach 165,000 tonnes.
Bac Giang lychees are already protected by geographical indication in several major international markets, including China, the United States, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, and Singapore. So far, the fruit has been exported to more than 30 countries and territories, meeting rigorous food safety and quality standards.
To support export growth, Bac Giang has issued production area codes for nearly 300 lychee-growing zones, covering over 21,000 hectares. The province has also invested in modern, synchronised systems for post-harvest processing, packaging, and logistics.
In addition to lychees, Bac Giang boasts 419 OCOP-certified products rated three stars or higher, and 56 key agricultural items. The province is carrying out a comprehensive strategy to enhance product quality and expand domestic and international markets.
To that end, Bac Giang is collaborating with leading e-commerce platforms such as Tiki, Shopee, Alibaba, and TikTok Shop, alongside logistics partners including Viettel Post, VNPost, and Grab, aimed at improving product visibility and streamlining distribution channels.
China remains Bac Giang’s largest export market, but the province is making a concerted push into other high-potential markets like the US, Japan, the European Union, and the RoK.
Nguyen Viet Oanh, chairman of the Bac Giang provincial administration, highlighted the significance of the event in promoting exports and building long-term partnerships based on trust and shared growth. He reaffirmed the province’s commitment to transparent production practices, disease control, and traceability to ensure compliance with international quality standards.
At the conference, provincial leaders also called on the Ministry of Industry and Trade to support trade promotion efforts by strengthening connections with domestic and global markets. They also urged the ministry to invest in digital and e-commerce solutions and to develop logistics infrastructure tailored to agricultural exports.
Furthermore, Bac Giang appealed to Chinese authorities and businesses to continue facilitating customs clearance by establishing “green lanes” at key border gates like Pingxiang and Hekou to expedite the movement of fresh produce, particularly lychees.
Domestically, the province encouraged other localities across Vietnam to help distribute Bac Giang’s lychees and other agricultural products through wholesale markets, supermarkets, commercial centres, and trade fairs.
