Vietnam rolls out E10 biofuel nationwide, consumers respond positively

VOV.VN - Vietnam officially began nationwide distribution of E10 biofuel on June 1 under its green energy transition roadmap, with early market responses showing stable fuel supply, smooth operations and generally positive consumer acceptance.

Under the government’s green energy roadmap, E10 petrol has replaced conventional mineral petrol across the country. Early observations from major cities and provinces suggest the transition has proceeded smoothly, with stable supply chains and a largely positive public response.

Petrol stations in localities including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh, Dong Thap and Hai Phong simultaneously shifted to E10 distribution in accordance with new regulations. Retail operations remained stable throughout the first day, with no reports of congestion, shortages or supply disruptions.

Industry sources said fuel distributors had spent months preparing storage systems, blending facilities and logistics networks ahead of the nationwide rollout, helping ensure a smooth transition.

According to local media reports, many consumers approached E10 with curiosity but without major concern, particularly those who had previously used E5 biofuel.

At a petrol station in Hanoi, Nguyen Van Hung, an office worker who regularly travels by motorbike, said he decided to fill his tank with E10 on the first day of implementation.

“I used E5 for years, so I feel fairly confident about E10. After reading more about it, I see this as an inevitable trend to reduce emissions. My vehicle operates normally, so I plan to continue using it,” Hung said.

Tran Thu Ha, a customer in Hanoi’s Hoang Mai ward, said her primary concern was fuel quality and engine stability.

“At first I was a little hesitant because this is a new fuel type. But after receiving explanations from station staff and reading information from the press, I feel more reassured. If it is environmentally friendly while still ensuring quality, then it is definitely worth considering,” she said.

In Ho Chi Minh City, ride-hailing drivers also expressed openness toward the new fuel. One driver noted that fuel costs are a key concern, but said he would continue using E10 as long as engine performance and fuel consumption are stable.

“The most important thing is whether the vehicle runs well and whether supply is convenient. If those conditions are met, people will quickly adapt to E10,” he said.

Although some consumers said they would need more time to evaluate the fuel’s long-term performance, many agreed that the transition toward biofuel aligns with Vietnam’s broader green development strategy.

Businesses in the petroleum sector shared preparations for the transition had been underway for months, including upgrades to storage tanks, fuel blending systems and distribution networks. They added that they would continue monitoring customer feedback and provide support regarding questions related to the new fuel.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the nationwide implementation of E10 represents an important step in Vietnam’s energy transition strategy aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels and promoting sustainable development.

The ministry said ethanol and E10 supplies had been fully prepared prior to implementation and instructed fuel distributors to maintain uninterrupted supply during the transition process.

Despite lingering concerns among some consumers regarding long-term engine impacts and fuel costs, the first day of implementation suggested that the market response has generally been positive.

The stable operation of the fuel distribution system, combined with the willingness of consumers to try the new fuel, is being viewed as an encouraging signal for the broader adoption of E10 biofuel across Vietnam in the coming time.
