Vietnam, Laos push ahead with cooperation projects
VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung on October 3 chaired a meeting in Hanoi with ministries, agencies, localities and enterprises to review progress in Vietnam-Laos cooperation projects.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the implementation of the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Plan during the past eight months of 2025 has met its targets, with notable outcomes. Many key cooperation issues have been resolved, several obstacles have been removed, and positive results have been recorded in diplomacy, national defence and security, human resource training, economics and trade.
Vietnamese investment in Laos has shown strong recovery with a more sustainable outlook. From January to August, registered investment capital reached US$322 million, six times higher than the same period last year, focusing on energy, mining and transport services. To date, Vietnamese firms have carried out 274 projects in Laos with total registered capital of US$5.82 billion and disbursed capital of about US$3 billion, many of which have proved effective.
Projects funded by Vietnam’s aid for Laos have generally stayed on schedule, with many already completed and put into use thanks to close coordination between project owners on both sides.
Among ongoing aid-funded projects, two are expected to be finalized in 2025, four in 2026, and one has been finished. Of four projects set to be launched, three are slated for completion between 2027 and 2029, while one is set for 2026. Both sides are also working to finalize procedures for three upcoming projects awaiting approval.
Deputy PM Dung underlined that the Party and State’s consistent policy is to enhance cooperation and support Laos in faster and more efficient project implementation. He called on ministries and agencies to make their best efforts to further nurture Vietnam-Laos ties.
“The spirit is that whatever has been done well must be done even better, and for things not yet done well, agencies must focus their leadership, guidance and concrete solutions,” he said, while praising the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for their proactive and effective work.

At the meeting, the Deputy PM tasked the Ministry of Construction with studying the railway project; the Ministry of Industry and Trade with working with Laos on the feasibility of an oil storage facility, considering adjustments to power purchases from Laos and reviewing the import price framework to encourage private investment in transmission lines; and the Ministry of Finance with assessing the viability of a road link between Vientiane and Thanh Thuy in Phu Tho province, as well as allocating funds for the Lao-Vietnam Friendship Hospital.
He set the target of inaugurating the Lao-Vietnam Friendship Hospital and the Lao-Vietnam Friendship Park on December 19, alongside other nationwide groundbreaking and inauguration events.
The Ministry of Finance was assigned to compile a report for the Government and the Party Central Committee’s Office to brief the Politburo on the status, challenges and proposed solutions for Vietnam-Laos cooperation projects.
