Vietnam export promotion forum 2022 focuses on green exports

VOV.VN - In order to meet high environmental and social standards set by import markets, exporters, including Vietnam, must pay closer attention to the green economy which can effectively alleviate environmental pollution and promote a green supply chain to help reduce negative environmental impacts along the life cycle of the green product.

This statement was made by Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien at Vietnam export promotion forum 2022 held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 28 as part of the Green Economy Forum & Exhibition 2022 (GEFE) by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham).

Green growth, green development, and the circular economy have become global trends as they are viewed as positive solutions in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve resilience, and boost the creativity of the economy towards the goal of achieving carbon neutrality and sustainable development, he said.

The minister went on to say the Vietnamese Government has issued policies to encourage the development of the green economy, whilst many businesses have introduced solutions to meet green export standards and at the same time to improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods in the international market.

Most notably, Vietnamese trade recorded high growth during the initial 10 months of the year with turnover reaching US$620 billion, up 14.1% year on year, and the turnover is predicted to climb to US$750 billion by the end of the year, representing an annual rise of 16%.

Jean-Jacques Bouflet, vice-chairman of the EuroCham, said European consumers were typically implementing green growth policy with specific actions aimed at coping with climate change and reducing environmental pollution.

Vietnamese export activities must therefore focus on environmental protection, green growth, and sustainability, he stressed.

The EuroCham official also advised European firms to make the most of the advantages from the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) as a means of promoting trade and investment cooperation, especially in the fields of science- technology, as well as the development of green and renewable energy.

Vietnamese firms should renew themselves and seek to adjust their production and business strategies to quickly adapt to a green and sustainable roadmap, he suggested.
