USTR acknowledges Vietnam’s goodwill toward bilateral trade issues
VOV.VN - The United States Trade Representative (USTR) has hailed the outcome of the recent virtual meeting between USTR representative Jamieson Greer and Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, acknowledging Vietnam’s goodwill toward addressing trade issues between the two countries.

During the meeting, Greer emphasised the important economic relationship between the US and Vietnam and reaffirmed the US’ commitment to promoting fair, balanced, and mutually beneficial trade.
Both sides agreed on the importance of making swift progress towards reciprocal and balanced trade between the United States and Vietnam, reads the USTR’s statement released on April 24.
They agreed to continue constructive dialogue to address concerns and further advance the Vietnam – US trade partnership.
The Ministers instructed their teams to engage in technical discussions in the coming days to discuss efforts to expand market access and address unfair trade practices, says the statement.
Dien and Greer held a phone call on April 23 evening, marking the official start of bilateral economic and trade negotiations between the two countries.
Dien, who is also head of the Vietnamese Government negotiation delegation, emphasised that Vietnam values the development of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the US and wishes to promote economic and trade relations in a balanced, stable, sustainable, and effective manner.
Meanwhile, Greer expressed confidence that both sides would soon reach appropriate solutions to strengthen a stable and mutually beneficial economic and trade relationship.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two chief negotiators agreed to maintain regular communication at both the head-of-delegation and technical levels to accelerate negotiations on specific issues.
In early April Vietnam and the US agreed to soon kick-start negotiations on a new bilateral trade agreement to replace the 1995 trade deal, aimed at addressing pending issues in bilateral relations.
