Prime Minister launches construction of bridge spanning the Red River
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 19 attended a groundbreaking ceremony of the Tu Lien bridge, an important infrastructure project connecting major districts and spanning the Red River in Hanoi.

The project is part of Hanoi’s broader transportation infrastructure development strategy, aimed at easing congestion on existing bridges and promoting socio-economic growth in the northern parts of the capital.
The Tu Lien bridge, that connects Tay Ho district with Long Bien district and Dong Anh district, has a total investment of nearly VND27 trillion (approximately US$1.06 billion) and is being implemented under an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract. It will span approximately 5.15 kilometers, including the main bridge and connecting roads on both ends, linking Nghi Tam Street with Truong Sa Street.
The bridge has been designed as a cable-stayed structure with twisted cables and two uniquely shaped main pylons, intended to serve as an architectural highlight for the area. It will be built by a consortium of Pacific Construction Group (China), VinGroup, and several other partners, and is slated for completion in 2027.
Addressing the event, the PM highlighted the project as a key symbol of the capital city’s transformation and economic leadership, saying the ground breaking ceremony coincided with national celebrations marking the 135th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19) and major upcoming celebrations.
He emphasised the bridge’s role in easing traffic, improving regional and international connectivity, and boosting economic growth, especially in the northern part of the capital city. He praised local authorities for their swift progress on investment approvals, land clearance, and planning.
He urged all involved parties to shorten the construction time to 24 months, ensure high standards, prevent corruption, and make the bridge an iconic architectural landmark.
The Tu Lien Bridge is one of 18 planned road bridges crossing the Red River under Hanoi's transport development plan through 2030, with a vision to 2050. It is the first Red River bridge project to break ground in 2025, paving the way for six other major bridge projects, including Tran Hung Dao, Thuong Cat, Ngoc Hoi, Hong Ha, Me So, and Van Phuc bridges in the future.
