Pangasius exports to Saudi Arabia on the rise
VOV.VN - Vietnamese pangasius exports to Saudi Arabia by mid-March inched up by 13% to reach more than US$4.3 million, compared to the same period last year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Saudi Arabia ranks second behind Egypt in the Middle East and 18th in the world in importing Vietnamese pangasius.
This is a positive sign for Vietnamese pangasius exports to Saudi Arabia amid high inflation globally, a downward trend in pangasius imports along with stringent regulations on food hygiene and safety imposed by Saudi Arabia, say industry insiders.
Vietnamese pangasius exports to this market have recorded a sharp decline since 2018 due to the temporary suspension of imports. Indeed, the export value of the fish to the market dropped 80% in 2018 compared to 2017 to just US$10.6 million.
Since Saudi Arabia lifted the ban more than two years ago, many Vietnamese seafood companies have started to export their pangasius products to the market.
Despite setting forth a number of stringent import regulations, Saudi Arabia is considered the "leading market" in the Middle East region for Vietnamese businesses, say experts.
