Navigating a green voyage together

Norway makes a strong presence at VietShip 2025 with the Norwegian Pavilion featuring the Norwegian leading companies to showcase Norway’s innovations and advanced solutions for green maritime.

The Norwegian Pavilion officially opened on March 5 morning with presence of Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam, Mrs Hilde Solbakken; Norwegian Commercial Counsellor, Director of Innovation Norway, Mrs Karin Greve-Isdahl; representatives of the seven companies including VARD, Jotun, DNV, Metizoft, Bergen Engines AS, Brødrene Aa, and Brunvoll AS, and their local partners.

Norway has a proud history as a shipping nation and is a leader in green shipping. The Norwegian maritime cluster is considered among the world’s most comprehensive of its kind, encompassing ship owners, brokers, insurance and financial services, classification institutions, shipyards, ship’s gear manufacturers, maritime education, maritime research and development, a very comprehensive aquaculture ecosystem, maritime authorities, employer organizations, and NGOs. Renowned for its expertise in sustainable maritime solutions, the entire cluster is working hard to decarbonise the industry.

Norwegian Ambassador, Mrs Hilde Solbakken noted, “We are very happy to be at VietShip this year together with the seven Norwegian companies that prominently represent Norway’s maritime cluster. The Norwegian Pavilion not only serves as a platform for our companies to showcase their state-of-the-art maritime solutions and technologies, but also to exchange knowledge, promote business network, and discuss collaboration opportunities with the local partners to develop the maritime industry while reducing its carbon footprint both in Vietnam and globally.

The shipping industry now accounts for approximately 3% of man-made greenhouse gas emissions. In July 2023, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) took an important step by adopting a strategy which includes an ambition to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping by 2050.

As ocean nations, oceans indeed connect Norway and Vietnam, and also our bilateral trades. We are both members of the IMO and green maritime will soon open up opportunities for us and our companies to work together and thus create jobs for local communities along our coasts. Navigating a green voyage is our mutual interest and we look forward to new partnerships established between Norwegian and Vietnamese companies.”

Norwegian Commercial Counsellor, Director of Innovation Norway, Mrs Karin Greve-Isdahl said, “With its long history as a seafaring nation, our companies have a wealth of expertise to offer when it comes to innovative and sustainable solutions that will drive the green transition in the maritime industry forward. Norway boasts a comprehensive value chain and a unique network of regional clusters. Low and zero-emission solutions and corresponding infrastructure for passenger vessels are proven and mature technologies in the Norwegian market, ready for export.

Together, the Norwegian companies at VietShip 2025 will tell a story of how each of them contributes to the industry’s success by leveraging its maritime expertise, setting ambitious emission reduction targets, leading the zero and low-emission vessel construction, fostering a comprehensive green maritime ecosystem, and engaging in international collaboration. GREEN, SMART, INNOVATIVE characterise our maritime solutions making Norway a frontrunner in the development and adoption of green shipping technologies.”

The Norwegian Pavilion expects to receive visitors to come and explore interactive exhibits, speak with companies’ representatives, and learn about their advanced solutions and innovations. In addition, the companies will also participate in specialised seminars and have B2B meetings with interested companies.

Among the seven Norwegian companies in the Pavilion, VARD, DNV, JOTUN and METIZOFT have established their commercial presence in Vietnam, while Bergen Engines AS, Brødrene Aa, and Brunvoll AS are newcomers.
