Malaysia lifts anti-dumping duties on Vietnamese steel
VOV.VN - Malaysia has officially removed anti-dumping duties on cold-rolled steel imports from Vietnam and the Republic of Korea, following a sunset review by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).
The decision, effective from June 23, 2025, ends investigations and duties on cold-rolled, non-alloy steel products over 1,300mm wide, previously applied to Vietnamese and Korean exporters.
Meanwhile, duties remain in place for producers from China and Japan. Three Chinese manufacturers, including Angang, Maanshan, and Shougang Jingtang, will be subject to tariffs ranging from 4.82% to 8.74%, while other Chinese exporters face a flat rate of 26.38%. All Japanese producers will continue to face a 26.39% tariff. These duties will remain valid until June 22, 2030.
The review was launched in December 2024 at the request of Mycron Steel CRC Sdn. Bhd., representing Malaysia’s domestic steel industry. It excluded tin mill black plate, automotive-grade imports, and finwall components for transformers.
Originally introduced in 2015 and extended in 2020, these tariffs aimed to protect Malaysia’s steel sector. MITI confirmed that the review complied with WTO rules and national trade remedy laws.
